Snails

We work to avoid snails and other hitchhikers, but it is impossible to ensure that they won’t be present. You can reduce the chance by gently running the water over the plant’s leaves before planting. You can purchase cups or tissue cultures, which are generally free of pests.

Planting Plants in Pots

Always remove the plants from the pot and gently separate the roots from the wool in the pot with your fingers. If you miss little pieces of the wool that should be fine.

Planting Plants in Lead Bunches.

Always remove the plants from the binder.  Gently removed the lead binder.  Then unroll the wrapping around the roots taking care to not damage any roots that might be present.

Planting Plants on driftwood, rock, stainless steel, or other hard surface.

You can simply add the plant to your tank as it arrives.  If you desire to put it on another surface, gently pull the connecting tissue from the existing surface preserving as much as possible.  Tie the plant to the new surface with cotton thread or fishing line to tie it in place.

Proper Planting.

Check the information we provide on each plant for any special planting conditions.  One problem that can occur (e.g., burying a rhizome) is the plant is improperly planted causing the roots or rhizome to die.  A little checking up front makes a big difference.

Wise Plant Choices.

We provide an overview of the needed conditions for each plant.  Please review those to ensure that the plant both meets your desire and will do well in your tank conditions (i.e., light, PH, temperature, CO2, etc.) before you purchase so that it is likely that the plant will do well in your tank.

My plant is losing its leaves.

Our plants are always grown submerged in our systems so our plants should not lose leaves due to the conversion from emersed to submerged.  We may purchase emersed plants, but will grow them out submerged prior to shipment to you.  However, some plants are sensitive to changes in water conditions compared to what we use and may lose their leaves upon planting in reaction to those changed conditions.  Don’t worry, once acclimated, they will begin to grow new leaves.

DOA.

  • We have a 100% live arrival policy.  If a plant arrives dead for any reason, send us a picture to Dean@sanctuary-aquatics.com within 24 hours of receipt.  Upon your request, we will refund, credit or replace the plant.

Invasive Plant.

We generally don’t carry invasive plants.  In some cases a plant is restricted in selected states and are fine to ship in other states.  We try to monitor existing requirements and post those with the relevant plant.  Please confirm that the plant can be shipped to you.

Only Ship to Lower 48 States.

We are unable to ship to anywhere other than the lower 48 US states.  If an order is made beyond the lower 48 states, we will cancel the order and refund any payment.
